*FREE* Reading Signs for Your Classroom or Library

I created these signs to frame in my library when my theme was "Reading is Sweet". I purchased black 8" x 10" picture frames from Dollar Tree and cut the signs to size and hung them with 3M Command Velcro Strips. They looked so cute and really popped against our gray walls. These printable signs are actually black and white.

I created this set to be editable for adding color to the background for those with access to a color printer. However, I printed mine on bright colored paper from Wal-Mart. I also created the last sign with a blank in the area of 'a cupcake' so you could change it to say whatever you like. The font is MTF Skinny and the size is 166. If you use these signs, I would love to see a picture! Click here or on any picture below to take you to the free download.

Winter Fun Activities for Kindergarten

I've been searching around for lots of new things to do this winter and I thought I'd share some of the great freebies that are out there.

I know there are tons of great paid items, as well. However, I'm a huge Dave Ramsey fan and one of my goals for the New Year is to pay off our last 20 acres by the end of the year so I was only looking for freebies. (If you haven't heard of Dave Ramsey, you should definitely check him out. His book, Total Money Makeover, completely changed the way I look at money, finances and debt.)

If you have a New Year's goal to save money or pay off debt, you should definitely look into his books or classes. Sorry for the little plug for Dave, but I love him!!! A sweet friend of mine gave me free tickets to see him live a few months ago and according to my husband, you would have thought I was a teenage groupie the way I was like, "Oh, Dave! Did you know I get to go see Dave? Look, there's MY Dave!" Ha! It's seriously sad, but I do love the man for saving my finances. My biggest and best achievements were paying off my grad school student loans years early and saving an additional $300 per month for retirement. We now have everything but our land paid off and that is such a huge blessing. Yay! Now back to our regularly scheduled post on winter planning. Sorry! ;)

Printable Reading Chart

I use a lot of emergent reader printable books in my Kindergarten classroom. Since most of the readers have text that is familiar to the students, I like to reward the kids for reading them to their parents and I like to keep the books at school for the kids to read to themselves or others.

Each time we read a book in the classroom, the kids take the book home and read it to their parents. Parents sign the book to indicate their child has read it to them. When the book is returned, I give the child a sticker for their reading sticker chart which stays in their binder until it is full. The book then goes in the child's book box with their whisper phone. When the chart is full, the child gets to visit the treasure box and gets to see the Principal for an extra treat.

I like to copy this on colored cardstock. I have copied it on construction paper, but the stickers don't stay stuck to the paper. I also like the durability of the cardstock.

Environmental Print

I remember how excited I was when my son first 'read' the word McDonald's at age 3 and recognized a stop sign at age 2. I also remember my son cutting food labels out with our Parents as Teachers Educator and placing them inside a Cheerios cereal box book. (We still have this!) We immediately told him he was a reader and never looked back. Environmental print is not only useful for children but necessary for many reasons. I have found some resources that I think are useful in helping kids recognize environmental print. I hope you find something useful, too.

Reading Strategies Cards

I just found these reading strategies cards at Pre-K Pages. I plan to print them to use in our book boxes. I may not even cut them apart.
