There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves Mini Math and Literacy Unit

I finally listed my unit There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves. Take a peek at it on TpT! It is only $3 and includes enough resources for two days worth of activities. This was the first Old Lady book I've done with my class this year and they absolutely loved the spinner/graphing activity. It was so wonderful to see them engaged and having conversations about whose turn it was and getting excited when it was their turn. :) I love lessons like that!

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat Mini Math & Literacy Unit

I know that not everyone celebrates Halloween, especially at school, but I went ahead and made a unit to go along with the series of Old Lady books by Lucille Colandro because a few of you had asked about it. This unit goes with the book There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat. The mini math and literacy unit has lots of activities that can be used for whole group, small groups or literacy stations.

Here are a few examples of the things you will see in the unit. Just click on one of the pictures below to take you to my TpT store.

New Books in the Series There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed…

I'm so excited! Tonight, I was contacted by a sweet reader, Diane, who I've been in touch with off and on since January and she let me know that there was a new old lady book that came out called There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books. She kindly offered to send it to me! How sweet was that? I headed to Amazon to check it out and there is another book being released in November called There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose for Valentine's Day. I LOVE this series of books!

The Amazon.com 4-for-3 promotion for books is still going on, so I ordered four new books, including pre-ordering There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose. I can't wait to get them all! I also used a $5 Amazon gift card I got for free for using SwagBucks, so it only cost me $16.97 for four books. If you don’t know about SwagBucks, please check out this post. You are missing out if you aren’t signed up!

I am also a huge Lisa Campbell Ernst fan! Ever since I saw her at a convention a couple of years ago and she showed us how she comes up with her illustrations, I have been in awe of her books. One of our teachers (pictured on the left below) was able to get her to visit our school. The kids got to get their books autographed and she even drew an illustration with each autograph. I wish I could find the picture of us when she came to our school and I got my class copy of Gingerbread Girl autographed, but it must be on my school computer. I ordered a copy of her book Goldilocks Returns. It’s a little older, but I don’t have it so it will be great to add to my Fairy Tales unit.

Along the same lines, I also purchased Honestly, Red Riding Hood Was Rotten. There are several books in the series. I like using books like this to teach compare and contrast and to discuss the point of view of characters.
