Welcome! I'm Marlana Howerton and this is my nineteenth year in education in a rural school district in southwest Missouri. I initially created this blog to compile lessons, ideas and printables that would make teaching easier and more meaningful to my Kindergarten students. Now, I'm currently a Kindergarten through 12th grade Library Media Specialist.
I am happily married with two precious children, a son and a daughter. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Southwest Missouri State University (SMSU, now MSU). After graduation, I also became certified in the areas of Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education and provisional Special Reading Certification. I received my Master's degree in Reading from SMSU in 2003. Most recently, I have received additional training in working with students with autism and students with visual impairments.

Throughout my teaching career, I have taken several years off to raise my family. I am currently in my ninth year as Library Media Specialist/Librarian at our school. Before that, I taught 8 years of Kindergarten and one year of Title I Remedial Reading (grades 1-6).
When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and daughter. Being a mom is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I take my role as a mother very seriously. If there is any time left at the end of the day, I enjoy thrift store shopping, adding to my blog, going to yard sales, making boutique bows, gardening, and doing practically anything while being with my family and friends.
